Metservice has issued a heavy snow watch and road snowfall warning for the Lindis Pass overnight on Wednesday (May 10).

Snow is expected to develop above 600m from the northern hills of Southland, further north to the Waitaki River, excluding the lower-lying parts of North Otago, Dunedin and Clutha.

There is a chance 1-3cm of snow may accumulate above 800m late Wednesday afternoon and in the evening, between about 4pm and 11pm, affecting the Lindis Pass (State Highway 8). Caution should be taken on this road during this time.
