In this exciting role, you will undertake design, engineering, and project management of allocated small and/or low complexity asset maintenance and capital replacement projects. There will be opportunities of development with other key departments as well as pathways for future endeavours as well as looking to enable New Zealand’s goal to be net Carbon zero by 2050.
As our Assistant Electrical Engineer, you will:
- Assist the Network Development and Lifecycle teams with scoping and budgeting for upcoming capital and maintenance projects and programmes.
- Undertake detailed design for allocated projects in accordance with Network Waitaki standards and Good Industry Practice.
- Develop cost estimates, quotes and other financial requirements for allocated projects.
- Coordinate with the Contracting team for delivery of allocated projects.
- Provide advice to customers regarding Network Waitaki policies, standards and regulatory requirements relating to connection and use of the network.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of standards and processes for the design of the network in accordance with industry rules and good practice and ensure these are communicated to the wider business and contractors.

Preferred attributes:
- 3+ years’ experience in power system engineering, including system modelling, protection (preferred), and control (preferred).
- Understands the principles of zero harm and sustaining a high-performance culture.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Commercial, financial, and risk management skills to develop project budgets and to undertake financial assessment of project options (preferred)
- A practical understanding of construction and engineering techniques (preferred)
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong collaborative working relationships.
- Tenacity in taking complex problems to successful outcomes despite potential barriers.
- Tertiary qualified in Electrical Engineering with specialisation in power systems.
- Professional engineering registration (preferred)
