Young people wanting to try out something new this Monday can join in the after-school fun at Centennial Park.

Youthtown Ōamaru and The Y are coming together to host their first Youth Zone, an end-of-term afternoon of fun activities for Waitaki youth.

Youthtown Ōamaru programme lead Kale Sandri is encouraging school children of all ages to meet next to the grandstand at Centennial Park on Monday (April 8), from 3.30pm to 5pm, to have a go at activities such as bubble soccer, slacklining and other sports.

“The Y are bringing along their play trailer as well so there will be activities for all ages,” he said.

“Come along after school, try out some activities and give your view on what youth would like to see and do around the Waitaki.”

This is the first time Youthtown has run something like this for a long time, Kale said.

The Youth Zone is part of an effort by Youthtown to revitalise its presence in Ōamaru.

It is also offering free rock-climbing sessions at the Waitaki Recreation Centre for Years 7-10 over the next few weeks, and hopes to run a few different trials of activities at different times and days of the week, to gauge what young people are interested in, and when they’re available.

If you want more information on the Youth Zone this Monday, or the free rock climbing sessions, contact Kale Sandri on 027 8912401.
