One of the Waitaki’s most successful sporting stars will visit Ōamaru next week.
Four-time women’s motocross world champion Courtney Duncan is coming to town next Wednesday (November 15) and Thursday.
Hailing from Palmerston, Courtney won her first world title in 2019 and successfully defended it in 2020 and 2021, before regaining the title in 2023. She was ruled out in 2022 with a broken collarbone.
Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher said Courtney was a “Waitaki sporting icon” and the Waitaki District Council had wanted to celebrate her achievements for some time.
“We’re pleased to host her in Ōamaru. She’s one of our own, and deserves a warm welcome from our community for her incredible success,” he said.
“It’s great that Courtney is the best in the world at what she does, but wants to share her experiences and success with the young people of our district.
“She is a truly great Waitakian, and we are all very proud of her.”
Courtney will be near the bike park at Oamaru Harbour, 4pm on Wednesday. The community is invited to hear her speak about her career in motocross and take part in a Q&A session.
There will also be a chance for fans to have gear signed, and get a photo with the world champion and her 2023 trophy.
On Thursday, Courtney will visit Five Forks, Fenwick, and Oamaru Intermediate schools.
