One person has died in a crash between a car and truck, north of Ōamaru last night.

The crash, on State Highway 1 (Glenavy-Hildethorpe Road), was reported to police at 8.05pm on Wednesday (November 8).

The driver and sole occupant of the car was killed in the crash. 

The road was closed for some time overnight for the Serious Crash Unit to examine the scene, but was back open by 7am this morning.

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are on-going, police said in a statement.
