Those responsible for shooting three sea lions at Waitaki River mouth over the weekend are being sought by police.
Waitaki Police Sergeant Tony Woodbridge says they were notified about the Saturday (August 9) shooting by the Department of Conservation (Doc).
Two of the sea lions were found dead, and a third, which was wounded, had to be euthanised, he says.
“Ōamaru Police are eager to hear from the community to help identify those responsible for senseless acts of cruelty against wildlife,” Sgt Woodbridge says.
Local iwi have been notified, and police are working with Doc rangers to investigate the evidence supplied to them.
Those with information are asked to contact police on 105 and quote event number P063434540 or visit Ōamaru Police Station.
