Police have released the name of the man whose body was located near Lake Benmore on February 19.

He was Anthony Otworowski, 63, of Australia, who was reported missing when he failed to return from fishing at Lake Benmore on February 18.

A helicopter with night vision equipment was deployed that night to search for him, but with no success, a police media statement said.

The following day, local LandSAR teams with members from Omarama and Oamaru were deployed and began searching the lake and the Ahuriri River.

Mr Otworowksi’s body was located near the trail entrance to the carpark.

Police expressed their condolences to the family and extended thanks to Search and Rescue and Coast Guard volunteers, whose dedication and professionalism resulted in Mr Otworowski being found, enabling him to be returned to his family.
