Daylight saving time starts tonight!

Today's the day (Saturday September 23) to put our clocks forward an hour before we head to bed.

New Zealand Daylight Time (NZDT) starts at 2am this Sunday morning. Most digital devices will update automatically but while you're changing your analogue clocks and watches, this is also a good time to test your fire alarm batteries.

History of daylight saving in NZ

New Zealand first introduced daylight saving time in 1927. The current times have been fixed since 2007.

Public attitudes to daylight saving

The 2008 survey found that 82% of New Zealanders approved of the 2007 extension to the period of daylight saving time.
