North Otago artists - both current and promising - have contributed to Weston Playcentre’s Art Gallery Fundraiser this Thursday (December 7).

Works from Luzette Crossan, Philina den Dulk, Silenzio Pottery, Nicole Sutherland and Maneland Photography, among others, will be up for silent auction - along with some carefully curated works from the 40 children who attend the centre, playcentre facilitator Lizze Brown said.

“We've had heaps of support,” she said. “With playcentre, all of our funding that we receive basically just covers the cost of operation. So anything extra, or for maintenance, we rely heavily on fundraising, so it's quite important for us.”

Proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards a $3000 riverbed water playset the centre is saving for, Lizzie said.

“It's very cool, and we're lucky, the community's been really supportive of it. Everyone's been on board to help.”

The fundraiser is being held at Harbour Street Collective Cafe on Thursday, at 7pm.

A $10 entry fee includes drinks and nibbles, and there are also donated spot prizes throughout the night, including vouchers from Inc Design and Balzer Fishing.

Tickets can be bought by messaging the Weston Playcentre through its Facebook page, and there will also be door sales - although pre-purchase is preferable for catering purposes. People will need cash, or bank transfers are also acceptable.

“The tamariki have been working really hard creating beautiful artworks, and they're super proud of it,” playcentre mother Anna Eisenhut said. “They're so proud of themselves.”
