Ōamaru mum Taylor Simpson is one of three finalists for Beauty Therapy Apprentice of the Year at the New Zealand Industry Awards. The Waitaki App wanted to find out a bit more about her and why she chose to become an apprentice at this stage in her life.
Q. First of all, tell us a bit about yourself. How old are you? Where did you grow up?
I'm a 31-year-old, dedicated mother of three and a supportive wife. My roots are in Ōamaru, where I attended school.
My career path has taken unexpected turns, leading me in a new and exciting direction. This journey not only empowers me, but sets an example for my children, showing them that it's never too late to pursue one's dreams and passions.
Q. Tell us about the awards you are a finalist for. What did you have to do to enter, and do you have to do anything else for the finals?
The Industry Awards are set to take place in Auckland on November 12, and I'm honoured to be a finalist for New Zealand Apprentice Beauty Therapist of the Year 2023.
This achievement is a process that required me to gather references attesting to my dedication and skill in the field. The application process delved deep into my background and passion for becoming a beauty apprentice.
I'm excited to be part of this celebration and grateful for the recognition of my hard work and commitment to the beauty industry.
Q. What would winning the award mean to you? What is the prize?
My main motivation stems from my role as a mother. I want my children to witness first-hand that determination, perseverance, and continuous self-improvement lead to success. Their pride in my accomplishments fuels my determination to excel in my work.
The winner receives $2500 towards professional development.
Q. What is it about beauty therapy that you love? Do you have a particular area you love to focus on or that you would love to explore more?
What I love the most about beauty therapy is the opportunity to connect with clients on a deeper level. Building trust and meaningful relationships with clients brings me immense joy.
The ability to make someone feel confident and beautiful is a privilege that I treasure. I aspire to expand my knowledge in the beauty industry through further studies, gaining additional qualifications, and attending advanced training programs.
Q. What do you like to do in your spare time outside of work?
Outside of work, you'll find me with my family, striving to strike that perfect balance between my job, studies, and family life.
