Waitaki won a world award for best beef, a new teen-focused programme designed to build confidence and capability was launched, Santa is coming to town and the 'spiritual home' of Whitestone Cheese is on it's whey, Waitaki App turned one with a prize draw winner and we got a government.


Alliance Group's Pukeuri plant in Oamaru took out the best grass-fed steak and the best ribeye steak at the World Steak Challenge in London - North Otago ribeye steak judged best in the world.


It was a also great week for our multi-award winning local cheesemaker, Whitestone Cheese - named New Zealand's favourite cheese company for the third time and close to opening their much anticipated Whitestone Cheese Diner and Deli (check out the story here, 'Spiritual home' of Whitestone Cheese on its whey).


We saw a bunch of outstanding young-people focused initiatives.


Sport Waitaki and Waitaki Neighbourhood Support paired up to create some novel street-based neighbourhood play, and now the concept is in talks on a National level; Getting down to the business of play


Amanda Fleming, personal development specialist has created a programme for teen development, inspired by a couple of "bored" taggers, it aims to give young people the real-world tools for life; New workshop delivers essential life skills for teens and already is garnering sponsorship from the business community.


Waitaki Girls High School has secured two incredible women to inspire the next generation with two fundraising events at Riverstone Kitchen and Castle next month, don't miss out; Waitaki Girls' fundraiser ticks all the boxes.


And today will delight the littlies and their parents with the opening of Toyorama; Toy stocks overflowing for Rotary fundraiser and the Oamaru Santa Parade. Lots on offer in the precinct today including Big Trucks and a Bike Sale - check out our What's On Guide for details.


Lastly we turned one and were delighted to give Presence on Harbour a year's worth of banner advertising in our first birthday draw. Waitaki App - a year in the making, 450,000 views, 11,000 readers and nearly 500 news stories down - we're just getting started.
