The Weekly Roundup - Saturday December 23

Our artists continue to colour Ōamaru, the Waitaki Event Centre plans are coming together, farmers and the council are working hard to meet in the middle over the draft district plan, and so much more in the App this week.

Awamoa Park's new toilets are hard to miss for all the right reasons. Read Colourful collab adds wow factor to new loos and see the work in progress.

Plans have been finalised for the Waitaki Event Centre, and the contractor for the design and build chosen. Read more at Contract awarded for event centre design/build to find out when work will start.

A group of farmers are working together to try and find a compromise with Waitaki District Council over proposed changes to land-use designations in the draft district plan. For all the details see Farmers keen to find a balance through draft plan discussions.

Unfortunately, a change in Governments means the brakes are on project that planned to make roads safer for road users in Ōamaru's North End at Red light for Transport Choices Ōamaru, but meanwhile travel to school is being made safer for Ardgowan pupils, with a new path being installed - Ardgowan pupils on track for safer passage.

It's shaping up to be another great tourist season in the Waitaki, if October's visitor numbers are anything to go by -Visitor stats signal good season ahead for tourism sector

And, if you're reading this with children running around your feet, while another grey day dawns outside, check out our Oamaru holiday guide for a rainy day

Also, whatever you do - do NOT light a fire! Fire bans imposed due to dry, windy conditions

Plus we launched a cute new feature called Discover Waitaki - locals talking about their favourite places in Waitaki. Of course, I had to be the guinea pig but check it out and join in the fun - Discover Waitaki - from Central Oamaru (where we live and work).

Good luck with the puzzles, good luck with the last-minute shopping. Only two more sleeps!

As always, a huge thanks to our small team for bringing us all of this! You too can get involved with Waitaki App;
