Local Weather with WAL (Waitaki App Limited)MetService rain forecast map for 12pm Sunday 9th July.

Despite the days slowly getting longer, we’re not even halfway through meteorological winter.

The strong winds earlier in the week also saw the partial demise of this reporters beloved Kowhai tree at home, the trunk split in two by the southwest gales.

The weekend ahead is marked by an approaching trough in the Tasman sea that will bring rain or showers to most parts of the country over the next few days.

Coastal Waitaki will be mainly fine today (Friday 7th) with some low cloud possible this evening and northerly winds. We should hit a high of 9deg C, dropping to a low of 3 C tonight.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy with northeasterly winds and a high of 11deg C. Occasional rain will set in after dark, dropping to a low of 6 C.
