Four public question and answer sessions will take place to discuss plans to prevent former dumping sites from slipping into the sea.
The Waitaki District Council has published Request for Proposal (RFP) documentation, meaning contractors were being sought to bid for the job of remediating waste from two illegal dumping sites on Beach Rd, near Ōamaru, and the closed Hampden landfill.
All three coastal sites had been identified as at risk of causing a potential environmental disaster.
It was proposed the waste be moved to the council’s Palmerston Landfill which is due to close in August 2027, once its consent expires.
The council Project Reclaim Team is holding Q&A sessions around the works in Ōamaru, Kakanui, Hampden and Palmerston, between March 29 and April 5.
Council solid waste manager Steve Clarke invited people to come along, bring their questions, and find out more about the works.
To read more about the works before the sessions visit: Project Reclaim | Waitaki District Council or email [email protected].
