Applications for the Chorus NZ Cabinet Art Project opened on September 1st.
Chorus NZ is once again calling for local artists to bring their creativity to Waitaki District's streetscapes inviting them to submit designs for the beautification of two telecommunications cabinets in Ōamaru.
Local artists including Sarka Cibulcova (featured image), Tracey Vickers, Matthew Wicks (Wicksey) and Dave Herbert are amongst a growing coterie who've successfully submitted winning designs and created some of Waitaki's most loved street art.
The project was conceived in 2010 as a trial to see if art works on cabinets decreased the frequency of tagging. It did and the project has been running ever since throughout the country.
The two cabinets selected for painting in this round are located at 371 Thames Highway, and the corner of Frome Street and Thames Highway.
Artists are paid $600 for their work with an additional $100 budget for materials.
