Health Care Assistant (0.8 FTE, permanent)

Waitaki District Health Services Ltd (WDHSL) are looking for a positive and proactive Health Care Assistant to work part-time (64 hours per fortnight) supporting our teams in the Emergency Department and our Ward.

THE ROLE

The role is to provide support to Nurses and Medical Staff in their care for patients. 

You will ensure the provision of a safe, clean environment for patients, staff and visitors by:

• Assisting nursing staff with patient care
• Assisting with patient meals
• Hands-on care of ED admissions and ward patients
• Re-stocking/Re-filling

As this is a hands-on role and requires the mobilising of patients (ie - sitting up in bed, helping to the bathroom) the applicant will need to be fit and have the ability to be continuously on the go!

YOU

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a professional and helpful attitude, and the ability to effectively communicate with both patients and the health care team. 

Having completed a Caregivers or Health Assistance Course, or an accredited Carers/Assistant Education Programme would be desirable, but not essential as training will be given to the right candidate.

You must be available to work on a rostered basis, have excellent communication skills and be flexible with multitasking skills. 

Shifts will be rostered and rotating over three shifts:

• 6.45AM to 3.15PM
• 2.45PM to 11.15PM
• 10.45PM to 7.15AM
