Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

As a Risk and Procurement Advisor, you will play a crucial part in shaping the direction of risk management, procurement, and contract strategies across the Waitaki District Council. Your role involves optimising procurement frameworks, managing Council's risk, and enhancing staff capabilities through training and continuous improvement initiatives. You will provide expert advice on complex procurement matters, leading initiatives that deliver value and improve public outcomes.


This position requires strong leadership, as you will work across teams to align Council's strategies with operational goals, ensuring compliance and transparency in all risk and procurement activities. You will drive efficiency and cost savings while fostering partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver on Council's long-term strategic objectives.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Relevant Qualifications and Experience: A degree-level qualification in a related field and at least 5 years of experience in procurement, risk management, and contract negotiation, ideally within a public sector or corporate services environment.
  • Risk & Procurement Expertise: Demonstrated experience in managing complex procurement and risk portfolios, with a focus on cost reduction, innovation, and compliance.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Proven ability to lead cross-council initiatives, coach teams, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Solid understanding of local government legislation, policies, and procedures, with the ability to ensure compliance and alignment with Council's strategic goals.

Utu ā-tau | Salary

The salary for this position will commence between $106,186 and $124,925 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
