As the Procurement Advisor at Waitaki District Council, you will play a vital role in optimising procurement frameworks, driving strategic procurement initiatives, and enhancing contract management processes. This role focuses on delivering cost-effective, innovative, and efficient procurement solutions that align with best practices and organisational goals.


You'll provide expert advice on procurement strategies, ensure compliance with regulations, and lead capability-building initiatives to improve staff proficiency. By fostering collaborative relationships with stakeholders and suppliers, you will help drive value through improved procurement outcomes that benefit the Waitaki community.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Qualifications: Degree-level qualifications in a relevant field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Membership in a professional institution or association and a full NZ Driver's Licence are required.
  • Procurement Expertise: Over 5 years of experience in public sector and/or corporate procurement, with a proven ability to deliver cost savings, innovation, and effective supply chain solutions.
  • Contract Management Skills: Demonstrated experience managing diverse portfolios, including construction, maintenance, corporate services, and IT, with a strong focus on negotiation and compliance.
  • Strategic Thinking and Innovation: Ability to identify and implement innovative procurement strategies that create efficiencies and enhance value for money.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and effectively manage relationships with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers.

Utu ā-tau | Salary

The salary for this position will commence between $84,246 and $99,113 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
