Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

As the Governance Services Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting Council's governance processes, ensuring that the community has timely access to information and facilitating efficient meeting services for effective decision-making.


You will work closely with the Governance Services Lead to provide high-quality governance meeting services (including the production of minutes), advice, and support to Council, its Committees, Sub-Committees, and Community Boards.


Your responsibilities will include building and maintaining positive relationships with elected members and colleagues, ensuring that relevant statutes, Standing Orders, and the Code of Conduct are applied correctly to decision-making processes. You will also support the implementation and improvement of governance policy and practices to formalise decisions and guide Council processes.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Relevant Qualifications and Experience:  A tertiary qualification (diploma level) or relevant experience in governance processes. You should have at least 3 years of experience in a governance support role within the public or private sector, with proficiency in capturing and preparing high-quality governance meeting minutes.
  • Governance Knowledge: A working knowledge of relevant local government legislation, policies, and procedures. You will be skilled in applying governance frameworks to ensure compliance and effective decision-making.
  • Relationship Building and Communication Skills: Proven ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You will communicate clearly and concisely, ensuring that governance documents and meeting minutes are accurate and well-prepared.
  • Organisational and Planning Skills: Excellent planning and organisational skills with a strong attention to detail. You will be able to manage multiple tasks effectively and prioritise work to meet deadlines and governance obligations.

Utu ā-tau | Salary


The salary for this position will commence between $85,644 and $100,758 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
