Are you an experienced communications and engagement pro ready for your next big challenge? Then we'd love to have you on Waitaki District Council's Communications Team, based in Ōamaru.

We're looking for someone innovative, courageous and clever. Our Council is going through an exciting programme of Transformation, so that we can deliver the best for our district. This is an interesting time for local government - you certainly won't be bored and you'll find your work crew are a bunch of cool humans.

About the role

This role will form a key link between Council and our residents, to ensure the messaging we are sending out is both tailored and engaging to its target audience. You will lead the development of new and better ways to engage with our communities and stakeholders across the district, ensuring our people feel connected, heard and have a voice in the decision making processes. Strategic (and entertaining) internal communications is also needed to help join the dots across our organisation, connect us to the bigger picture and align our people to work as one team.

You'll be:

  • Liaising with the community, stakeholders and the media to build relationships, and close the feedback loop
  • Contributing to the success of organisational change and staff engagement through effective internal communications

About you

You love working with a diverse range of people and you're a keen collaborator, negotiator and diplomat. You feel at home making technical information easy (and fun!) to absorb and understand.

Knowledge of Te Ao Māori would be ka rawe. Community events experience, presentation and facilitation skills are a bonus. Change communications experience would be a plus.

If you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, be encouraged to apply anyway!
