Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

As the Assets Planning Specialist, you will be an integral part of the Council's strategic planning efforts, leading the development of asset management strategies and plans to support both community needs and Council's broader objectives. Your primary role will be to provide expert guidance and thought leadership on asset management, ensuring that Council's assets are effectively managed and aligned with future growth, sustainability, and operational goals.


You will collaborate across multiple teams to address complex asset-related challenges, offering solutions that optimise performance and efficiency. A core aspect of your role will involve conducting research and analysis, providing insights that inform decision-making at both strategic and operational levels.


This position requires you to lead the preparation of asset management reports, strategy development, and forecasting. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and helping the Council meet its reporting obligations.

The preferred candidate will have:


  • Relevant Qualifications and Experience: A tertiary qualification in engineering or a related discipline, ideally with advanced studies or significant experience in asset management, analysis, and data analytics. You must have at least 5 years of experience in analysis and modelling within a complex operational environment, preferably related to asset management.
  • Analytical and Technical Expertise: Strong analytical skills, particularly in modelling, data analysis, and forecasting. You will be experienced in supporting decision-making processes through insights derived from data and possess the ability to optimise the management of information systems for asset management.
  • Strategic Planning and Reporting: Proven experience in developing asset management strategies and policies, and the ability to prepare detailed reports that align with Council's goals and compliance obligations. Familiarity with local government legislative frameworks is an advantage.
  • Collaborative and Communication Skills: A track record of building strong relationships with internal teams, external partners, and contractors. You will be able to communicate technical and complex asset-related information in a clear and actionable manner, fostering a collaborative working environment.
  • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Demonstrated ability to address challenges in asset management through creative and sustainable solutions. You will proactively contribute to continuous improvement efforts, ensuring that Council's asset management practices remain forward-thinking and effective.

Utu ā-tau | Salary


The salary for this position will commence between $85,644 and $100,758 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
