Guidance Counsellor – Full-Time, Permanent Position

Waitaki Boys’ High School, a proud institution with over 140 years of history in shaping ‘young men of outstanding character,’ is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Guidance Counsellor to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the pastoral care and well-being of our students, supporting them in their personal growth and development.


About the Role:

As the Guidance Counsellor, you will be an integral member of our pastoral support team. You will work closely with the school’s leadership team, pastoral care team, external agencies, students, and their whanau. This is a dynamic and rewarding role, central to the holistic excellence of the school, where you will lead by example with professionalism and a strong work ethic.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counselling to support the well-being and personal growth of students.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team and pastoral care staff to support student welfare.
  • Work with external agencies and whanau to ensure a supportive environment for students.
  • Be a key figure in fostering a safe and supportive school culture.

Position Details:

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Remuneration: To be discussed at interview (In line with Secondary Teacher's Collective Agreement pay scale)
  • Commencement: Start of Term 2, 2025 (or by negotiation)
