Based in the vibrant coastal town of Oamaru, our core business is bringing electricity from the national grid to over 13,000 connected customers in North Otago and parts of South Canterbury. Network Waitaki provide innovative energy solutions to our customers, as well as providing electrical construction and maintenance services across New Zealand.
About the role:
In this exciting role, you will be able to contribute to New Zealand’s low carbon future. We see significant opportunities to develop our electricity network as customers convert from Carbon-based fuels to electricity.
As Network Development Engineer, you will:
- Research our customers’ energy needs and technology trends.
- Develop and maintain our network computer model.
- Simulate customer growth scenarios to understand how our network will perform.
- Find innovative solutions to develop our network.
- Build your network of peers in New Zealand to collaborate and share knowledge.

Preferred attributes:
- Understands the principles of zero harm and sustaining a high-performance culture.
- 5+ years’ experience in power system engineering including system modelling, protection (preferred), and control (preferred).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Data analysis skills and understanding of statistical methods.
- Experience with common desktop PC applications and advanced applications relevant to power system analysis. (Digsilent Powerfactory and Power BI preferred).
- Solid conceptual and reasoning skills and the ability to think strategically.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong collaborative working relationships.
- Tenacity in taking complex problems to successful outcomes despite potential barriers.
- Commercial, financial, and risk management skills to develop project budgets and to undertake financial assessment of project options (preferred).
- A practical understanding of construction and engineering techniques (preferred)
- Experience in scripting using Python (preferred)
- Membership of Engineering New Zealand or equivalent institution (preferred)
- Professional engineering registration (preferred)
