We have established a new, full-time, permanent position to complement our existing teaching team in our Oamaru Early Learning Centre . This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified early learning teacher to join our community focused Centre.

 

About the role

This is an exciting and rewarding position suited to a proven and experienced Kaiako with exceptional interpersonal skills. Your warmth, sense of humour, flexibility, and confidence with learning stories with a commitment to culturally responsive practices will make you a perfect fit in our supportive, collaborative team.


Qualified teachers at Barnardos work in partnership with parents and whānau to encourage children’s curiosity, learning and development. You will assess, plan and implement a curriculum for infants, toddlers and young children that reflects current approaches to effective teaching and learning.


This role is 40 hours per week based at our Oamaru Early Learning Centre.


The Centre is dynamic, innovative and the team is committed to providing high quality care for all families and children in the wider community. We love the spacious outdoor area, getting together to share kai and the enthusiastic teaching team have a great environment to teach in.

 

Key responsibilities

  • deliver a curriculum aligned to Te Whāriki
  • plan, implement and evaluate a learning programme that is responsive to the strengths and interests of children
  • promote learning opportunities which are inclusive, equitable and culturally responsive
  • document children’s learning and take responsibility for children’s profile books and e-portfolio as agreed with the Centre Manager

 

Skills and experience


To undertake this role you will have:

  • Early childhood teaching qualification recognised by the Education Council of Aotearoa NZ
  • Current Teaching Council Practising Certificate
  • Experience working as a teacher in an early childhood education team setting
  • The ability to use initiative and a commitment to quality practice standards and the principles of Te Whāriki
  • Knowledge and understanding of current early childhood education theory and practice
  • Excellent communication, planning and organisation skills
  • Enthusiasm and a strong desire to make a difference to children in their early years, while building strong links with their whānau and families.
