Observatory Retirement Village

Observatory Retirement Village

21 Stoke Street, Oamaru

Visiting Hours: Daily between 10am and 4.30pm.

To create a Lifecare Village was the goal and we are delighted at the support we have received to achieve this.

Observatory Village Charitable Trust has been established to own and operate the Observatory Village with the goal of providing support for aged care, health and disability services, and related charitable purposes.

Waitaki District Health Services Trust and Waitaki District Council have both provided initial financial support for the development.

The Observatory Village will repay the loans and then all operational profit will be used for the health and wellbeing of the Waitaki Community.

The village is unique in that the locals indirectly own it and can also reside in the village.

Local support is recognised and appreciated and we continue this local focus with 90% of the contractors being local businesses. The development has invested over $32million back into our district, with further construction yet to be completed.

Observatory Village has provided employment opportunities for nearly 100 people.

The Waitaki District has a beautiful natural landscape of mountains, lakes, valleys, farmland and coastline.

Observatory Village has reflected the North Otago region with both the names of areas within the facility and also with its chosen colourings of paint and furnishings throughout the care facility, common areas, villas and apartments.

The heart of the region is Oamaru with it’s Victorian Heritage and Maori History. The Steampunk Capital of NZ is renowned for it’s Oamaru Stone industry and Harbour Setting. The exterior of the village has been finished with iconic Oamaru Whitestone.
