North Otago Plunket

North Otago Plunket

1 Severn Street, Oamaru 9400

The first 1000 days make the difference of a lifetime! Plunket is seeking volunteers to help and support families in our community. This role may suit someone with some spare time each week, looking for some experience in a social or support.

The Plunket Society is a non-profit national organisation whose people are passionately committed to the well-being of children and their families. Plunket support families to ensure children reach their full potential in the first 5 years of life. Services available include parenting advice and support, child health promotion and health education.

There are a variety of roles available – the two we’re currently seeking volunteers for are:

1 - Giving People Support Volunteer

Plunket has many Families in our community who require a little additional support - this could be helping parents preparing meals, interacting and engaging with children, attending appointments with the family or simply being a supportive listening ear. Their GPS (Giving People Support) families all have at least one child under the age of 5. Some of the mums are post-caesarean or mums of multiple births. These mums may require a little extra support while they adjust. Does this sound like a role you would be interested in? Sometimes just an hour of your time can make the World of difference to a Family.

2 - Playgroup Coordinator

Being a playgroup coordinator is a very varied role and you can make it your own! Tasks may involve: - Setting up toys/activities and cleaning up after playgroup - Having a little chin wag with the mums at playgroup - Entertain the children while mum has a quiet cuppa - Let your creativity loose by designing play activities each week. There is the ability to have more than one person in this role and work together or alternating weeks.
