At Maheno Kindergarten our Moemoea is: Manaaki whenua, Manaaki tangata, Haere whakamua. Care for the land, care for the people, go forward. This whakataukī guides our teaching and learning practices at Maheno Kindergarten.
As a teaching team, we are unified in our practice and committed to creating an environment where our tamariki, whānau and all visitors feel welcome, respected, accepted and supported. Manaakitanga and Kaitiakitanga are key to our ways of “being” and “doing”.
Maheno is a bronze Enviroschool which means we are committed to teaching and learning about how to care for, and protect, our local environment and the ways we may use the skills we learn to nourish our bodies, minds, whānau and community.
We believe that all our tamariki are capable learners and bring with them valued experience and knowledge. We value exploration, curiosity, independence, resilience, creativity and learning through play. We encourage tamariki to take risks in their learning, embrace new ideas, share their knowledge and develop a sense of who they are.
