Ōamaru is home to one of New Zealand’s largest little penguin populations, and while little penguins may on occasion be spotted about the township, the ocean is where they spend most of their time.
Join Henry Elsom to explore the behaviour of our penguins at sea. Where they go, how far they travel, how successful they are, and why it is important to study this behaviour to better protect them.
Henry is the Environmental Team Leader at the Ōamaru Blue Penguin Colony. Having completed his Master of Science studying the foraging behaviour of little penguins in Ōamaru, he now works to support Ōamaru’s penguin population through conservation, education and research.
