Boaz has been keeping crowds dancing in Dunedin's iconic octagon pubs since 2018. Abandoning Auckland to study music at the University of Otago, Boaz would frequent the open mics to cut his teeth, playing covers and original tunes to the appreciative crowds. He soon joined a Metal band as a Bass player and lead singer, before he branched out with his own band 'The Vortz' in 2016. In 2019 Boaz (Bo) undertook a new musical venture with a larger band, 'BO And the Constrictors,' enabling him to expand his musical style and creative songwriting skills. They achieved success with their single "Men With Ven" on Spotify, racking over 50,000 plays. The band continues to write music and plan for a big 2025, with new music being released monthly.
While bands have always been an important creative outlet, Boaz has been writing his own songs for a solo project. These lean towards a more introspective and chilled-out vibe when compared to the high energy levels of band life, enabling Boaz to find balance in his creative pursuits. His solo work is a collection fit for deeper thinking and contemplation.
Boaz has been a big Jeff Buckley fan ever since he picked up the guitar and started singing at open mics back in his early twenties, and this can be seen in his original works. He also enjoyed growing up with the likes of Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, Led Zepplin, and Queens of the Stone Age, but also loves a lot of soul, funk, reggae, and a bit of Jazz in the mix too. The odd hip-hop and rap tickles his fancy every now and then, you even find the odd country song popping up in his Spotify playlist! What Boaz enjoys most of all though, is playing all the popular covers of the last six decades that get the crowd pumping on a weekend.
