It is 11 years since we did the full trail on its opening from Mt Cook to Oamaru.

This year we will do the new option of Tekapo to Oamaru. There are new trails off the road for us to explore.

Arrive for the Victorian Heritage Celebrations (from the 14th November 2024). There will be the usual festivities including the parade and Penny Farthing and Classic bicycle racing on the Saturday afternoon (16th November).

The tour is from the 18th to the 23th November 2024. Tour is supported with vans and trailers. Food, Accommodation and transport is included in the cost.

Suitable for all abilities. Cycles from Penny Farthings, steel safeties and onward. Later cycles (including ebikes) are allowed but be aware that the older cycles will set the pace. We often get couples joining the tours. If someone wants to help drive the vans that is most welcome.

It is a non-profit club event so joins the club. You will not get better value. $950-$1150 depending on option chosen.

Itinerary

• Day 1 Leave Oamaru. Cycling from Tekapo to Lake Ruataniwha near Twizel. Distance 63km.

• Visit Tekapo for Astronomy Evening Monday or Tuesday

• Day 2 Lake Ruataniwha to Ohau lodge. Following the canals and the shore of Lake Ohau. Distance 33km

• Day 3 Lake Ohau to Omarama. Over the hump. If you have the time and energy visit the Clay Cliffs. Distance 40km (Staying at Otematata Hotel)

• Day 4 Omarama to Kurow. Follow the shore of lake Benmore or ride over the Otematata Saddle. Then follow the trail around the back of Lake Aviemore to Kurow. Distance 66km

• Day 5 Kurow to Danseys Pass. (Between Duntroon & Elephant rocks) Distance 41km

• Day 6 Danseys Pass to Oamaru. Bring a light for the Rakis Tunnel. Distance 44km.
